Part-Time Café Host - Customer Service Job At Coffee Shops

About the Role

Greate Consultant is placing part-time Café Hosts with coffee shops and café-style restaurants that prioritize the guest experience. A café host is responsible for the first and last impression every customer leaves with — greeting guests at the door, managing the seating flow, and ensuring that the front-of-house environment is clean, organized, and welcoming at all times. This role is ideal for people who enjoy a social setting but prefer to be on the floor rather than behind the bar.

What You Will Do

• Greet every guest at the entrance with a warm, genuine welcome and direct them to available seating
• Manage the seating chart or floor plan to maximize table turnover and minimize customer wait times
• Communicate expected wait times honestly to queued guests and keep the lobby area organized and comfortable
• Clear and reset tables quickly after guests leave — wiping surfaces, resetting menus, and notifying servers of availability
• Keep the entrance, lobby, and seating area clean, safe, and presentable throughout the shift
• Answer questions from guests about the café, menu overview, and location amenities (parking, WiFi, events)
• Assist servers and baristas with light tasks during slow periods — running water, pre-bussing, and restocking napkins
• Follow up with guests who appear to be waiting to ensure their order has been received and they are comfortable

What You Need

• Outgoing, welcoming personality — the host role is entirely guest-facing from arrival to departure
• Organizational skills to manage seating flow efficiently during busy periods
• Composure under pressure — the host stays calm when there is a wait and guests are impatient
• Good communication with the floor team about table readiness, guest needs, and seating updates
• Ability to stand and walk for the full duration of a 4 – 6 hour shift
• Must be 16 or older — no prior host experience required

Nice to Have

• Previous host, front desk, or customer service experience in hospitality or food service
• Comfort with tablet-based reservation and waitlist apps (Yelp Waitlist, OpenTable, or similar)
• Second language ability for multilingual guest interactions
