Part-Time Grocery Store Stocker - Overnight Stocking Jobs
About the Role
A major grocery chain is hiring part-time Overnight Stockers for store replenishment shifts that run while the store is closed or at reduced traffic. Overnight stocking is one of the most consistent, well-paying, and schedule-friendly part-time jobs in the grocery industry — you work while most people are asleep, finish before the morning rush, and leave the rest of your day completely free. Overnight positions pay a shift differential on top of the base hourly rate, and the work itself is physically active and predictable every shift.
What You Will Do
- Receive delivery pallets from the stockroom and transport them to the correct department on the sales floor using a pallet jack or flatbed cart
- Open cases and stock shelves in your assigned department — grocery, dairy, frozen, snacks, beverages, or health and beauty
- Face and rotate products during stocking — older items move to the front, newer items are placed behind, following FIFO rotation
- Check product dates during rotation and pull any items within the discard window to the supervisor for markdown or removal
- Break down empty cardboard boxes and bale them at the cardboard compactor throughout the shift
- Clean and sweep the aisle floor behind you as you stock, maintaining a safe and presentable sales floor
- Complete your assigned department stocking list and notify the overnight supervisor of any out-of-stock items not received in the night's delivery
- Assist the dairy or frozen team with cooler and freezer stocking when your primary department assignment is complete
What You Need
- Overnight availability — overnight stocking shifts typically run from 10 PM to 5 AM or 11 PM to 6 AM
- Physical stamina for a full night of active stocking — bending, lifting, and moving quickly through long store aisles
- Ability to lift grocery cases up to 40 lbs and operate a manual pallet jack
- Reliable attendance — overnight stocking must be completed before the morning customer rush begins
- Self-motivated work ethic — overnight shifts involve minimal supervision and you must manage your own pace and progress
- Must be 18 or older — overnight roles have age requirements at most grocery chains
Nice to Have
- Previous grocery store stocking, retail backroom, or warehouse experience
- Pallet jack operation experience
- Familiarity with grocery category planograms and shelf standards
