Remote Business Operations Analyst Airline

About Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines operates one of the most complex and efficient airline networks in the world, running thousands of flights daily with a lean, agile operational model that has defined the low-cost carrier industry for over five decades. Our Business Operations team is the analytical and strategic backbone of that efficiency — tracking performance, identifying friction, and driving continuous improvement across every corner of the Southwest operation. Data and accountability are our tools, and the result is an airline that consistently outperforms on both cost and customer satisfaction.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Remote Business Operations Analyst to join Southwest's Operations team and provide the data analysis and reporting support that helps our leaders make fast, confident decisions. You will maintain operational dashboards, investigate performance variances, and synthesize complex operational data into clear, actionable summaries that inform strategic and day-to-day operational decisions across the airline.

Your Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain operational performance dashboards tracking on-time performance, turn times, completion factors, and cost metrics
  • Analyze operational data to identify variance drivers and root causes behind performance deviations from plan
  • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly operations reports for department leads and senior leadership
  • Support cross-functional operational improvement projects by providing data modeling and scenario analysis
  • Coordinate with network planning, ground operations, and inflight teams to gather data and validate findings
  • Prepare presentations and analytical summaries for operational review meetings and leadership briefings
  • Develop and maintain process documentation for recurring analytics workflows and report generation

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in business operations analysis, airline operations, or transportation analytics
  • Proficiency in Excel and SQL for data extraction, analysis, and reporting
  • Experience building dashboards and visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to distill operational complexity into clear executive summaries
  • Bachelor's degree in operations management, industrial engineering, business analytics, or a related field

Southwest Perks

  • Competitive hourly or salaried compensation with Southwest's industry-leading profit-sharing program
  • Free standby flight benefits for you and eligible family members across the Southwest network
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with matching contributions and access to Southwest's financial wellness resources
  • Supportive, team-oriented work culture with genuine investment in your long-term career growth
