School Custodian Part-Time - Evening Custodial Jobs No Degree
About the Role
The Elite Job is placing part-time School Custodians with public school districts and private schools that need evening cleaning staff after the school day ends. School custodian roles are among the most stable part-time positions available — the school runs on a fixed schedule, your shift starts when students leave, and the work is consistent and predictable every week. No degree, no certification, and in most cases no prior custodial experience is required. A good attitude and the ability to do thorough, reliable work are the entry requirements.
What You Will Do
- Sweep, dust-mop, and wet-mop all classroom floors, hallways, gymnasium floors, and common areas after the school day concludes
- Empty classroom and hallway trash cans, replace liners, and transport waste to the exterior dumpster collection point
- Clean and sanitize all student restrooms — toilets, urinals, sinks, floors, and mirrors — and restock soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue
- Wipe down student desks, chairs, and whiteboard ledges in each classroom as part of the evening cleaning rotation
- Clean the cafeteria after the lunch service ends — sweeping and mopping floors, wiping tables and benches, and cleaning the serving line area
- Vacuum and clean the main office, front lobby, and staff lounge areas each evening
- Complete seasonal tasks including floor stripping and waxing, window washing, and locker cleaning during school breaks
- Report any facility damage, graffiti, or safety hazards observed during the cleaning shift to the head custodian
What You Need
- Evening availability — school custodian shifts typically run from 3 PM to 7 PM or 3:30 PM to 8 PM on school days
- Physical ability to push custodial carts, operate commercial floor equipment, and stand and walk for the full shift
- Reliability — schools depend on their custodial staff being present every scheduled evening
- Trustworthiness — custodians have after-hours access to school facilities and must be background-cleared
- Ability to follow a cleaning route and checklist independently without supervision throughout the shift
- Must be 18 or older — criminal background check required for all positions in school facilities
Nice to Have
- Prior school, institutional, or commercial custodial experience
- Floor care equipment experience — buffer, auto-scrubber, or wet/dry vacuum
- OSHA 10 general industry certification
What We Offer
- Pay of $14 – $17 per hour — many school districts pay higher than private commercial cleaning
- Predictable evening schedule aligned with the school calendar — you always know when you work
- School break pay or extended summer hours depending on district contract
- All cleaning supplies and equipment provided — you just show up
- A community-connected role where your work directly benefits students and teachers
