About the Role We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help with optimization, support and deployment of our cloud-based data systems that power mission-critical healthcare applications. You’ll play a key role in building secure, scalable, and compliant database solutions using Azure SQL Server, and other cloud-native technologies. Additionally, you will work in supporting the evolution of our analytics lakehouse and all of its data sources. Our platform supports real-time clinical workflows, patient data analytics, and regulatory reporting—so precision, performance, and privacy are paramount. This is a hybrid role, where having a solid background in administration or operations of data platforms as well as exploring data lakehouse tools and strategy are preferred. Essential Skills:<ul> <li>Design, deploy, maintain and support cloud based SQL Server environments across VM’s, Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instance platforms</li> <li>Troubleshoot performance issues using standard tools and monitoring platforms, improving client outcomes within our product data platforms</li> <li>Ensures high-quality outcomes by refining processes, validating infrastructure changes, and mentoring others on standards.</li> <li>Works with product development to adhere to best practices during SDLC</li> <li>Takes ownership of support issues, working with other engineering teams on data platform product solutions</li> <li>Anticipates customer needs and designs solutions that add long-term value</li> <li>Partners with stakeholders to refine requirements and improve outcomes</li> <li>Advocates for customer-centric practices within engineering teams</li> <li>Mentors junior engineers on processes/procedure using best practices to improve the work environment</li> <li>Reviews Data Protection and Compliance technologies ensuring they meet industry standard and best practices</li> <li>Ensures high-quality outcomes by refining processes, validating infrastructure changes, and mentoring others on standards</li> <li>Ability to leverage log exhaust to create robust real time monitoring and alerting for platforms and processes</li> <li>Proactively adjusts to shifting priorities and business needs</li> <li>Responds quickly and effectively to complex incidents or outages</li> <li>Guides others in managing change and uncertainty in technical environments</li> </ul> Minimum Requirements:<ul> <li>5-7+ years of experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL in production environments, ideally within healthcare or regulated industries</li> <li>Deep understanding of cloud database architecture, PaaS vs IaaS, and hybrid cloud models</li> <li>Expert command of T-SQL, PowerShell, as well as Python or C# for automation and scripting</li> <li>Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates</li> <li>Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare data standards is a plus</li> <li>Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and clinical teams</li> <li>Excellent communication and documentation skills</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications:<ul> <li>Experience with Azure Fabric, Databricks or other big data platforms for large-scale healthcare analytics</li> <li>Exposure to Python for data engineering, automation, or ML pipeline integration</li> <li>Basic understanding of streaming data architectures (e.g., Azure Event Hubs, Kafka) and real-time analytics</li> <li>Familiarity with Delta Lake, Parquet, or Lakehouse architectures</li> <li>Understanding of data mesh principles and distributed data ownership models</li> <li>Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent</li> </ul> Working Environment/Physical Demands:<ul> <li>100% Remote</li> <li>Activities require a significant amount of work in front of a computer monitor</li> <li>Long-distance or air travel as needed – not to exceed 10% travel</li> </ul> Total Rewards: Generous annual bonus opportunity 401(k) with Employer Match Flexible Time Off: take time off when you need it without worrying about available hours 11 paid holidays Your Day Your Way - Celebrate a day of cultural or social significance to you Insurance: Choice of Medical, Dental, and Vision plans Health Savings Account with employer match Flexible Spending Account 100% Company-Paid Parental leave (After 6 months with the company) 100% Company-Paid Life Insurance and Short/Long Term Disability Insurance Nextech Luminary Peer Recognition Program Wellness Program including discounts on medical premiums Employee Assistance Program with free counseling sessions available Corporate Discounts on Retail, Travel, and Entertainment
