Job Description
ADA is seeking a skilled, experienced and self-motivated Lithium Battery Engineer for a full-time, on-site role at our facility in Englewood, CO. The engineer will be responsible to technically lead and program manage the design, test, validation and optimization of ADA’s current and next generation lithium batteries for client applications.The Lithium Battery
Engineer will support the scale-up activities required to successfully transition prototype batteries to product manufacturing. Additional responsibilities include report and proposal writing, presentations to customers, and program management. The ideal candidate will be a team player who can manage, lead and participate in research and development (R&D) initiatives to advance battery performance and durability.Key Responsibilities
- Carry out materials, formulation, and design evaluations for new products or new generations of products, including active materials, additives, separator, and other inactive materials.
- Carry out electrode design optimizations to achieve customer/market requirements on performance, safety, reliability, and cost.
- Develop and validate component and assembly level specifications of electrochemical component materials and assemblies.
- Identify characterization equipment and test methods for materials, components and batteries.
- Investigate battery reactions and conduct failure mode analysis to identify root causes and generate novel solutions.
- Resident expert on science and models in details of battery materials, electrode formulation, and chemical formation mechanism.
- Support the Director of Research & Development and the Vice President of Business Development in writing, editing, and compiling technical proposals and reports to the Department of War.
- Successfully manage project budgets, timelines, and support Subcontractors.
- Work with suppliers and strategic partners to exchange technical information and enable access to advanced research.
- Coordinate the activities of technicians, test engineers, and peers.
- Serve as a mentor to more junior members of the advanced development team.
- Serve as consultant to other engineers on lithium ion battery materials and theory.
- Lead optimization activities on new formulations, materials, and battery designs.
- Propose and evaluate new materials to meet company goals in ADA’s novel battery architecture.
- Conduct literature research to stay current in developments for electrochemical materials and
- batteries and apply relevant research to ADA’s research and development activities.
- Work with suppliers to exchange technical information and enable access to advanced material and battery research.
- Summarize, report on, and present research activities regularly to ADA personnel and ADA customers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing personnel contributing to a positive, team-oriented, and high-quality work environment.
- MS in Materials Science, Electrochemical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent and no less than five (5) year of experience in li-ion battery R&D, or
- BS in Materials Science, Electrochemical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent and no less than seven (7) years’ experience in Li-ion battery R&D, or equivalent.
- Experience in battery system design and integration.
- Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of lithium ion battery materials, components, performance, impedance, battery testing/data analysis, and failure modes.
- Working knowledge of analytical equipment used in lithium ion industries.
- Skilled in designing experiments to develop new materials and products.
- Experience writing, editing, and compiling technical proposals
