What You Will Do

• Perform the scrub role in the operating room — gowning and gloving sterile team members, organizing the sterile back table and Mayo stand with required instruments and supplies for each procedure
• Pass instruments, retractors, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon and first assistant during the procedure in a smooth, anticipatory manner
• Maintain strict sterile technique throughout every procedure, identifying and correcting breaks in sterile field immediately
• Perform accurate instrument, sponge, sharps, and supply counts with the circulating nurse before incision, before wound closure, and at case completion
• Prepare the operating room before each case — pulling case carts, setting up equipment, and verifying implants and specialty supplies are available
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and skin preparation under the direction of the surgeon and circulating nurse
• Participate in emergency procedures and trauma cases requiring rapid scrub setup with minimal preparation time
• Maintain and inspect surgical instrumentation for proper function, reporting damaged or missing instruments to the sterile processing department

What You Need

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from NBSTSA — required for most hospital and ASC positions
• Current BLS certification
• Clinical proficiency in general surgery, orthopedics, or other specialty areas with independent scrub ability
• Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and OR protocol
• Ability to work calmly and accurately in a high-stakes, fast-paced surgical environment
• Physical ability to stand for long procedures, lift and transport surgical equipment, and work in the compressed environment of an OR suite
• Associate degree or accredited surgical technology certificate — no four-year college degree required

Nice to Have

• Tech First Assist (CSFA) certification for facilities offering first-assistant privileges
• Experience in robotic surgery (da Vinci Si, Xi, or Ion) as surgical tech or bedside assistant
• Specialty scrub experience in cardiovascular, neurosurgery, spine, or total joint arthroplasty
• Experience in a high-volume Level I trauma center OR
